Moises Camacho, Claims Manager for Barrett Claims Management, said that consumer confidence in reciprocal insurance in Florida is gradually returning as the market shows signs of greater stability.

“Consumers slowly regaining confidence. Market transitioning from crisis towards cautious stability,” said Camacho, according to LinkedIn.

Reciprocal insurance exchanges are member-centered arrangements where subscribers pool premiums to insure one another, sharing the results of the exchange rather than paying returns to outside shareholders. Members empower an attorney-in-fact to handle underwriting, claims, and operations while retaining collective ownership and governance. This cooperative model often emphasizes transparent decision-making, community focus, and disciplined underwriting, providing consumers with a sense of control and stability over their coverage management.

According to recent analysis linked to AM Best and reported by Carrier Management, 27 new reciprocal exchanges were formed between 2017 and 2024, with 14 based in Florida alone. This reflects strong interest in member-owned insurance capacity. From 2022 through 2024, these entities increased direct premium volume by 83 percent, highlighting rising consumer and carrier reliance on reciprocal structures. Many of these exchanges have “very strong” balance-sheet assessments from AM Best, indicating solid capitalization and claims-paying ability that can reassure policyholders seeking durable protection within a cooperative framework.

Camacho oversees Barrett Claims Management’s Fast Track, Virtual Desk, Remote Adjusting, and dispute-resolution units. He coordinates teams handling a wide range of multi-peril residential and commercial claims with a focus on service quality. He sets ambitious performance targets around speed, accuracy, and customer satisfaction while building training programs to help adjusters exceed those goals. His leadership approach emphasizes empowerment, clear communication, and thoughtful reserve management.
