The Brew & Barbecue event will return to James Weldon Johnson Park for its ninth year, according to an announcement from the park’s organizers. The event is set in downtown Jacksonville at the city’s oldest public park, which is managed by Friends of James Weldon Johnson Park, a nonprofit group that works with the City of Jacksonville.
Friends of James Weldon Johnson Park was established in 2014 and has been working to revitalize the area by adding landscaping, amenities, and providing daily programming. The organization’s mission is “to transform James Weldon Johnson Park into a modern, urban space that engages diverse communities and restores vitality to our city’s public square.” According to the group, they achieve this by maintaining the park and offering programs supported by community partnerships. Staff members are present on site to provide information and keep the area clean and safe.
James Weldon Johnson Park is located near several major landmarks including City Hall, the main branch of the Jacksonville Public Library, and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
