The U.S. Census Bureau has announced the start of the 2026 Census Test, which will take place in Huntsville, Alabama and Spartanburg, South Carolina. The test aims to assess certain operational procedures ahead of the 2030 Census.
According to the agency, the focus of this test is on evaluating how the U.S. Postal Service can be used for tasks that are usually carried out by Census Bureau field workers. There will also be limited activities related to in-field enumeration.
In a statement, the agency said: “The Census Bureau remains committed to conducting the most accurate count in history for the 2030 Census and looks forward to the continued partnership with local communities.”
The outcomes from these tests are expected to inform planning and improvements for future national population counts.
