The U.S. Census Bureau announced on April 9 the release of a downloadable file with estimates of the nation’s resident population by single year of age and sex as of July 1, 2025.
These new data provide insight into the demographic makeup of the United States for policymakers, researchers, and the public. Population estimates are used to guide decisions in areas such as resource allocation, planning for schools and healthcare services, and understanding demographic trends.
According to the Census Bureau, additional releases are planned in the coming months. These will include housing unit estimates for the nation, states, and counties; population estimates for cities and towns; as well as more detailed breakdowns by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin for various geographic areas including metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas. The agency also plans to release Puerto Rico Commonwealth and municipio population estimates by age and sex.
No formal news release accompanied this product; instead it was distributed via a tip sheet.
The forthcoming data releases are expected to further inform public policy discussions at multiple levels of government.
