The U.S. Census Bureau has announced that the 2020-2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates will be made available to embargo subscribers starting January 27 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time, with public release scheduled for January 29.

The ACS provides detailed data on topics such as language spoken at home, education, commuting patterns, employment, mortgage status and rent, income, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. It is noted as the only source of local estimates for most of the more than 40 subjects it covers.

These new statistics will cover various geographic areas including all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, congressional and state legislative districts, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, counties, places, census tracts, and block groups.

Embargo subscribers will have exclusive access to this information from January 27 at 10 a.m. ET until January 29 at 12:01 a.m. ET. The Census Bureau stated that “Wire and distribution services are prohibited from distributing embargoed news stories and data files before the embargo period ends.” Additional details can be found in the Census Bureau’s embargo policy. All related data products will become publicly accessible through data.census.gov and other platforms by January 29 at 10 a.m. ET.

Those interested in registering for embargo access can do so by visiting the official registration page.
