The U.S. Census Bureau announced on March 10 that it will provide a two-day embargo period for qualified media to access the Vintage 2025 population estimates for U.S. counties, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, as well as Puerto Rico municipios and related areas. The embargoed data covers population changes from April 1, 2020, through July 1, 2025.

The embargo period is scheduled to begin Tuesday, March 24 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time and end Thursday, March 26 at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time. During this time, registered members of the media can view the new estimates via the Census Bureau’s embargo site.

According to the announcement, “Embargo subscribers may interview Census Bureau experts during the embargo period.” Requests for interviews should be sent by email to [email protected].

Media outlets interested in accessing the information are encouraged to register on the Census Bureau’s embargo site ahead of time and confirm their login credentials by March 23. For any issues related to embargo access or assistance with login details, inquiries can be directed to [email protected].

The Census Bureau emphasized that “the embargoed information may not be published, broadcast, posted online, distributed via wire and distribution services, or shared until the public release date and time (Thursday, March 26, at 12:01 a.m. ET).”

This process allows journalists early access to important demographic data while ensuring that all outlets adhere to a coordinated release schedule.
