Civilian aircraft mechanics and electronic maintenance technicians working for Yulista Aerospace and Defense at Kirtland Air Force Base have voted unanimously to join IAM Local 794 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) announced the results, highlighting key concerns such as fair pay, safe working conditions, reliable scheduling, and increased input on workplace decisions as primary motivations behind the decision.
“This unanimous vote shows the undeniable power of solidarity,” said IAM Western Territory General Vice President Robert “Bobby” Martinez. “These mechanics and technicians have made it clear they want a voice at work, and the IAM is proud to stand with them as they fight for fair treatment and dignity on the job that they deserve for the work they provide to our country.”
Ashley Long, President of IAM Local 794, also commented on the outcome. “This outcome reflects the shared recognition that workers deserve a collective voice in ensuring fair treatment, strong safety standards and the respect their skills merit,” Long stated. “We believe this union victory will lead to improved morale, higher job satisfaction and ultimately enhanced readiness and aircraft safety, all of which benefit everyone involved.”
The new members join a local chapter representing workers in various aerospace roles at Kirtland AFB. The vote follows ongoing discussions about worker rights and representation within civilian defense contracting environments.
