Community Hospice & Palliative Care is marking Veterans Day by highlighting its services for military veterans in Northeast and North Central Florida. The organization reported that it cared for nearly 1,800 veterans over the past year, providing specialized end-of-life care tailored to the unique needs of those who have served in the armed forces.

The hospice’s approach addresses not only medical needs but also the emotional and spiritual challenges veterans may face as a result of their service. Care teams receive training to understand trauma, moral injury, and illnesses related to military experiences. Individualized care plans can include counseling, spiritual support, and therapies aimed at easing burdens on both patients and their families.

A central feature of the program is the Veteran Pinning Ceremony, where patients are formally thanked for their service. Flags representing different branches of the military are displayed outside patient rooms as a tribute visible to staff, families, and other veterans. These ceremonies are intended to provide comfort and recognition for both patients and their loved ones.

Community Hospice & Palliative Care has achieved Level Four Partner status in the We Honor Veterans program. This designation is part of a national initiative led by The Alliance for Care at Home in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The recognition reflects efforts such as expanded education for staff and volunteers, stronger community partnerships, and an ongoing commitment to honoring veterans at the end of life.

“From honoring service through bedside ceremonies to providing specialized end-of-life care, the organization’s veteran services ensure that those who served our country receive the compassion, dignity, and respect they deserve,” Community Hospice & Palliative Care stated.

The organization emphasizes that its mission goes beyond medical treatment by promising to honor those who defended national freedoms through various forms of support during their final days.
