The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens is offering a series of events and programs during the holiday season aimed at families and visitors of all ages. The museum’s schedule includes activities such as Tai Chi, art workshops for children, family literacy nights, and a luminaria celebration.

Kim Kuta Dring, Director of Learning and Engagement at the museum, said, “At the Cummer, the holidays are about slowing down, celebrating togetherness, and discovering the magic of creativity. Whether you’re gathering for story time, creating seasonal artworks, or strolling in our beautiful outdoor spaces, there’s something for every member of the family to enjoy.”

Among the planned events is Self-Care Sunday: Tai Chi & Sound Bath on December 14. This event encourages participants to take a break from holiday activities with gentle movement classes followed by time in the galleries and gardens. The class fee includes museum admission.

On December 16, Creative Kids Drop-In offers an after-school art session where children can explore museum collections before making their own seasonal artwork. That evening, Family Literacy Night will be held in partnership with local organizations including the Jacksonville Public Library and Mayor Donna Deegan. Families attending this free event can select books to take home and participate in literacy-focused activities.

Luminaria at the Cummer Museum is scheduled for December 21. The event features live music on the front lawn, refreshments from the Cummer Café, art-making opportunities for all ages, and shopping at the museum store.

A Vacation Week Workshop on December 23 provides young artists aged 7-12 with instruction in painting winter scenes under guidance from teaching artists.

In addition to these special programs, visitors can access galleries displaying works spanning five millennia as well as historic gardens along the St. Johns River. The museum extends its hours on Tuesdays and offers free admission on every third Tuesday of each month. More information about events and registration is available at cummermuseum.org.

Founded in 1958 by Ninah Cummer, the institution has served Northeast Florida for over sixty years as a cultural resource featuring exhibitions and educational opportunities alongside its riverfront gardens.
