Duke Energy Foundation has contributed $187,500 to the Share the Light Fund in South Carolina to help customers manage higher energy bills after recent cold weather led to increased energy use. This new funding brings Duke Energy’s total assistance in the state close to $520,000 over the past year.
The Share the Light Fund provides support through local agencies that assist qualifying utility customers with bill payments and other resources. The latest investment will be distributed by the Foundation for the Carolinas to community partners throughout South Carolina.
Last year, more than $330,000 from Duke Energy, its foundation, employees, and customers was provided through this program to community organizations across South Carolina.
Customers who need assistance can find local agencies distributing Share the Light Fund aid using Duke Energy’s Payment Assistance Finder tool. Those wishing to contribute can set up donations on Duke Energy’s website. The company matches every dollar donated up to $500,000.
Shelley L. Price, executive director of G.R.A.S.P., said: “We are incredibly grateful to Duke Energy for their continued partnership and support through the Share the Light Fund. This funding allows GRASP to provide critical assistance to families and individuals who are facing difficult choices between paying for utilities and meeting other basic needs.”
Tim Pearson, president of Duke Energy South Carolina, stated: “Extreme cold can increase energy needs at a time when many customers are making tough financial choices. Supporting our communities through the Share the Light Fund is an important way we can help during the winter months.”
The Duke Energy Foundation provides over $30 million annually in philanthropic support funded by company shareholders.
Duke Energy serves 8.6 million electric customers in six states and operates 55,100 megawatts of energy capacity. Its natural gas utilities reach 1.7 million customers across five states.
