Duke Energy Florida announced on Mar. 25 that financial assistance programs are available for eligible customers who may still face challenges paying their energy bills, following the removal of storm cost recovery charges from customer bills in February. The change has resulted in a decrease of approximately $44 per month for residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt-hours.

The company said these resources are intended to support families experiencing temporary financial hardship or unexpected challenges, even as overall bills have dropped. In 2025, nearly $30.5 million was provided to assist about 31,000 Duke Energy Florida customers with their energy costs.

Duke Energy Florida partners with community organizations and utilizes programs such as the Share The Light Fund, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and FL211.org to connect qualified individuals with available aid. Melissa Seixas, president of Duke Energy Florida, said: “We know that unexpected challenges can arise, and we’re committed to standing by our customers when they need it most. These programs help provide a safety net for families navigating temporary hardship while keeping their households running.”

Customers seeking help can explore payment assistance resources through Duke Energy’s Payment Assistance Finder online tool. Additional support options include installment plans that offer flexibility in payments, due date extensions ranging from one to ten business days, and seasonal savings tips designed to help reduce energy usage during periods of high demand.

Duke Energy Florida serves two million residential, commercial and industrial customers across a service area spanning 13,000 square miles in the state. Its parent company operates electric utilities serving more than eight million customers across several states and is investing in grid upgrades and cleaner generation technologies.

The company encourages those struggling with payments to seek help early so they can find the best solution for their needs.
