Duke Energy Florida hosted its Neighborhood Energy Saver Program in Clearwater on April 9, with about 75 residents attending the event at the Ross Norton Recreation Center. The program aims to help local customers receive free home energy assessments and find ways to lower their monthly electricity bills.
The initiative is significant as it offers support for community members looking to manage rising energy costs, especially ahead of the summer months. More than 2,200 local customers are eligible for the program, which provides both homeowners and renters with access to a range of energy-saving improvements at no cost.
Melissa Seixas, president of Duke Energy Florida, said, “Our Neighborhood Energy Saver program is just one of the many resources we offer to help connect customers with ways to lower their energy bill. By bringing our team and the community together, we’re able to get more support in the hands of customers in need as we head into the summer.”
Eligible participants can benefit from up to 20 different improvements including insulation upgrades, sealing air-conditioning ducts, basic air-conditioning maintenance, smart thermostats, energy efficient lightbulbs, a year’s supply of air-conditioning filters, as well as water-saving showerheads and aerators. The program uses federal and state guidelines along with census data to identify qualifying communities.
Since its inception in 1981, Duke Energy has helped Florida customers save nearly $1.25 billion through various energy efficiency programs such as this one. Duke Energy Florida serves two million residential, commercial and industrial customers across a service area covering 13,000 square miles.
Looking ahead, Duke Energy continues its strategy focused on modernizing its electric grid and investing in efficient generation resources while prioritizing customer value.
