The Duke Energy Foundation has announced the launch of its America250 grant program, inviting nonprofits in North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Florida to apply for funding. The initiative is part of a more than $1 million investment aimed at supporting community projects that align with the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
Grants will range from $5,000 to $20,000 and are intended for projects that focus on workforce development for veterans, local history initiatives, and improvements to shared green spaces. Eligible applicants include qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving communities within Duke Energy’s service areas. Governmental entities are not eligible for this funding opportunity.
According to Loree Elswick, president of the Duke Energy Foundation: “America250 is more than a milestone – it’s an opportunity to reflect on our nation’s history, recognize the contributions of all Americans and support the next generation through community-led projects. Our investment is focused on uplifting the places and people that shape our communities.”
Applications will be accepted from January 12 through February 20. Each organization may submit one application under the title “America250: [Insert description of the request].” More information about eligibility and how to apply can be found on the Duke Energy Foundation website.
The Duke Energy Foundation provides over $30 million each year in philanthropic support across its service regions. Funding comes from Duke Energy shareholders.
Duke Energy itself is among the largest energy holding companies in the United States. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, it serves approximately 8.6 million electric customers across six states and operates natural gas utilities serving about 1.7 million customers in several southeastern states.
