Qualified nonprofit organizations in South Carolina can now apply for Duke Energy Foundation grants aimed at preparing homes for energy efficiency upgrades. The grants, which can be as much as $20,000, are intended to support programs that address health and safety issues such as roof leaks, electrical hazards, mold, pest infestations, or structural deficiencies—conditions that must be resolved before weatherization and other energy-saving improvements can take place.
According to the company, only 501(c)(3) nonprofits with established health and safety home repair programs are eligible to apply. The funding is designated specifically for repairs that make homes ready for future weatherization and energy efficiency work. Eligible uses include roof repair or replacement; electrical repairs or upgrades; plumbing repairs; structural stabilization; mold remediation and radon mitigation; as well as pest control.
The application window opens immediately and will close on October 30. Funds cannot be used directly for weatherization or energy efficiency improvements but must focus on preparatory health and safety work. More information about the grant opportunity is available through Duke Energy’s website.
Tim Pearson, Duke Energy’s South Carolina president, said: “Recent legislative efforts have made it clear that South Carolina’s leaders realize the importance of energy efficiency and weatherization programs in moderating energy bills and the growing demand on the electric grid. As Duke Energy looks to new ways of expanding these offerings, we also understand the need to help address the underlying safety issues in homes that are barriers to these efforts.”
Duke Energy has expanded incentives and eligibility criteria for its residential and business energy efficiency programs in South Carolina to encourage more participation among customers seeking savings on their utility bills.
