As cold weather is expected to move in early next week, Duke Energy is offering guidance for customers to manage energy use and reduce costs. The company encourages customers to take simple steps to save on heating as temperatures fall below seasonal norms.

Some of the recommended actions include setting thermostats to the lowest comfortable temperature, sealing leaks and adding insulation, changing air filters regularly, using sunlight for natural warmth by opening blinds during the day and closing them at night, and operating ceiling fans clockwise to push warm air downward.

Duke Energy also highlights its energy efficiency programs. According to the company, customers who have participated in these programs since 2019 have collectively saved over $1 billion on their bills. These initiatives are designed to help households lower energy usage during colder months.

Available resources include free home energy assessments that come with an efficiency kit and personalized recommendations. Customers can also receive rebates through the Smart $aver program when upgrading equipment or insulation. Those with smart thermostats or water heaters may enroll in Power Manager/EnergyWise Home for bill credits by shifting usage away from peak times. Income-qualified households can access free weatherization assistance such as insulation, air sealing, and HVAC repairs.
