As colder temperatures are expected to hit the Carolinas early next week, Duke Energy is encouraging customers to take steps to reduce their energy usage and manage heating costs. The company says its energy efficiency programs have resulted in more than $1 billion in bill savings for participants since 2019.

Duke Energy recommends several measures for homeowners to conserve energy during the cold weather. Customers can receive personalized alerts if their energy use increases unexpectedly, and can access dashboards that break down consumption by day, week, or billing cycle.

The company suggests setting thermostats to the lowest comfortable temperature, sealing leaks and insulating homes, having heating systems checked by professionals, changing air filters regularly, using sunlight to help heat homes during the day, and operating ceiling fans clockwise in winter to circulate warm air.

Several programs are available for customers seeking additional support. These include free home energy assessments with complimentary kits and personalized reports; rebates on upgrades through the Smart $aver program; bill credits for enrolling smart thermostats or water heaters in Power Manager/EnergyWise Home; and weatherization assistance for income-qualified households that covers insulation, air sealing, and HVAC repairs.

Duke Energy serves electric utility customers across six states and operates a large portfolio of generation capacity. The company continues investing in grid upgrades and cleaner energy sources such as natural gas, nuclear power, renewables, and storage technologies. More information about these programs can be found at duke-energy.com/SeasonalSavings.

“Customers participating in our energy efficiency programs have seen more than $1 billion in bill savings since 2019, highlighting the meaningful impact participating in the programs and taking steps to become more energy efficient can have during colder months.”
