Film Florida has announced a new competition for student filmmakers across the state. The Film Florida TV Student Film Competition is open to both high school and college students, offering 11 awards in various categories. Winning films will be featured on a new streaming channel, Film Florida TV.

“We launched Film Florida TV to showcase the incredible work of our members,” said Sandy Lighterman, Film Florida President. “We are excited to give more opportunities and avenues to student content creators to showcase their creative work.”

The competition runs from March 6th to March 16th, during which participants must create five-minute short films. Each team will receive a Florida-themed prompt, a required line of dialogue, and a prop that must be included in their film. All projects must be shot entirely within Florida.

Eligibility requires current enrollment in a Florida-based high school or college. Students interested in participating need to submit their notice of participation by February 20, 2026. Completed films must be submitted by March 16, 2026 through https://filmfreeway.com/FilmFloridaTVShowcase.

Awards will recognize achievements such as Best High School Student Film, Best College Student Film, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography. There will also be an Audience Choice Award determined by viewers on Film Florida TV.

The organization describes the event as an opportunity for students to demonstrate creativity and collaboration while highlighting aspects of life in Florida.
