The start of autumn in Florida is marked not by changing leaves, but by the harvest of citrus crops. According to Steve Johnson, Chairman of the Florida Citrus Commission, this period is significant for growers across the state. “It’s one of my favorite times of year, and for a good reason. We’ve worked hard all year for it, and now, Florida Citrus is ripe for the picking,” Johnson said.
Johnson noted that there is a sense of determination and optimism among industry participants as the harvest begins. He referenced the recent Florida Citrus Commission (FCC) meeting held on October 22, which had full attendance from all 11 commission members either in person or virtually. Industry partners also participated by presenting updates and recommendations through various committees within the Florida Department of Citrus.
He reminded stakeholders that FCC meetings are not typically held in November; therefore, the next meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 17 at 9:00 a.m. at the Bartow headquarters.
Steve Johnson serves as Chairman of the Florida Citrus Commission and owns Johnson Harvesting, Inc., based in Wauchula, Florida.
