The Florida Medical Association (FMA) has announced a series of upcoming initiatives and events aimed at supporting women in the medical profession. One of these is an educational webinar titled “From Barely Surviving to Thriving,” scheduled for Wednesday, February 26, at noon Eastern Time. This webinar is part of a broader effort by the FMA’s Women in Medicine Committee to address issues affecting women physicians.

Rebekah Bernard, MD, who serves as both a member of the FMA Board of Governors and chair of the Women in Medicine Committee, expressed gratitude for the formation of this committee. “I’m so appreciative that the FMA Board of Governors (BOG) created a Women in Medicine Committee to support the needs of our women physician members,” said Dr. Bernard. “Studies show that women physicians have a higher rate of burnout than our male colleagues, and of even greater concern, a 24-percent greater chance of suicide than the general population.”

Dr. Bernard emphasized that the FMA is committed to assisting women physicians in their practice.

Several events are planned as part of these efforts. On Friday, April 4, the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville will host the Women in Medicine & Science Conference at the Mariott Jacksonville. Registration details will be available in future editions of FMA News.

Additionally, on Saturday, May 3, the 2025 South Florida Women Physicians Retreat will take place at Hyatt House in Naples. The event is being organized by multiple local medical societies from Broward, Collier, Dade, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Palm Beach, and Sarasota counties. Attendees can expect presentations and group discussions throughout the day as well as lunch and an evening reception.
