The Florida Medical Association (FMA) is seeking nominations from county and specialty medical societies for physicians to serve on its reference committees. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. ET on Friday, May 9.

Each reference committee consists of at least five voting members of the FMA House of Delegates (HOD), excluding current FMA officers and members of the Board of Governors (BOG). The Speaker and Vice Speaker of the FMA are responsible for selecting committee members. These committees are tasked with conducting open hearings on proposed resolutions before these resolutions are presented to the full HOD during the Annual Meeting.

After receiving direct feedback on the resolutions under consideration, reference committee members meet privately to deliberate and reach a decision on each resolution. Their recommendations are then presented in a detailed report to the HOD. If a resolution passes in the House and is adopted by the BOG, it becomes official FMA policy.

Delegates will have an opportunity to submit online testimony regarding any properly filed resolution starting Monday, June 23, at 9 a.m. ET through Thursday, July 3, at 9 p.m. ET. Those submitting testimony must indicate their support or opposition for each respective resolution.

Reference committees will convene in executive session during the week beginning Monday, July 7, to finalize their reports. These reports will be published online ahead of the Annual Meeting set to begin on Friday, July 25. Delegates can debate committee recommendations during in-person hearings scheduled for Saturday, July 26.
