The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) has approved updated charges for the Cast Iron/Bare Steel Replacement Rider (CI/BSR Rider) for Peoples Gas System, Inc. (PGS). The decision supports continued efforts to modernize and improve safety in Florida’s natural gas distribution network.
The commission also finalized its review of actual and projected true-ups for 2024 and 2025, which have been incorporated into the calculation of the new 2026 charges.
Starting January 2026, residential customers will face a CI/BSR monthly surcharge of $0.01593 per therm. For a typical household using 20 therms each month, this will result in an increase of about 32 cents on their bill.
According to the FPSC, “The CI/BSR Rider funds the ongoing replacement of aging cast iron, bare steel, and problematic plastic pipe.” For the year 2026, PGS plans to invest approximately $62.1 million in system modernization projects. After accounting for prior-year adjustments, this leads to an approved revenue requirement of $2.9 million.
Peoples Gas System currently provides natural gas service to over 400,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers across 14 service areas in Florida.
