The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) is using National Energy Awareness Month this October to encourage residents across the state to make smart energy choices. The FPSC highlights that saving energy can also result in lower household costs, a point of growing importance as Florida remains one of the states with the highest overall energy consumption.
“Energy Awareness Month highlights the power of making smart energy choices,” said FPSC Chairman Mike La Rosa. “When consumers take simple steps to conserve energy, they not only lower their monthly utility bills but also gain more control over their household costs.”
Recent data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration shows that Florida is the second-largest producer of electricity in the country, following Texas. The residential sector is responsible for 54% of Florida’s electricity use—more than any other state—due largely to widespread air conditioning and electric heating needs.
The FPSC encourages Floridians to treat Energy Awareness Month as an opportunity for lasting change rather than a short-term effort. By adopting efficient habits throughout the year, residents can contribute to a more reliable and cost-effective energy future for everyone in the state.
