The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) has approved new charges for the 2026 Safety, Access, and Facility Enhancement (SAFE) Program by Florida City Gas (FCG). The decision aims to maintain natural gas safety and reliability throughout the areas served by FCG.
The SAFE Program focuses on upgrading infrastructure. Key projects include replacing old gas mains, removing high-risk “orange pipe,” moving facilities to locations that are easier to access, and updating equipment that is no longer current. In 2025, FCG replaced a total of 31.7 miles of gas mains and 1,244 services. Additionally, work related specifically to orange pipe replacement accounted for another 18 miles of mains and 1,185 services.
Starting January 1, 2026, customers will see changes in their monthly SAFE charges. Those using less than 6,000 therms per year will pay $8.70 per month—an increase from $4.66. Customers who use more than 6,000 therms annually will see their charge rise from $7.77 to $11.01.
FCG plans to spend around $108 million in system improvements during 2026 as part of its ongoing effort to improve safety, service reliability, and resilience over the long term.
FCG serves approximately 116,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers across several counties: Miami-Dade, Broward, St. Lucie, Indian River, Brevard, Palm Beach, Hendry, and Martin.
