Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) recognized Florida Lineworker Appreciation Day on August 26, 2025, highlighting the role of lineworkers in maintaining the state’s electric grid. The FPSC called attention to the demanding work performed by these professionals, who are responsible for restoring power during outages and ensuring a reliable electricity supply.
“As Florida continues to strengthen its energy grid and storm readiness, we must remember that lineworkers are the frontline heroes keeping power safe and reliable,” said FPSC Chairman Mike La Rosa. “We are grateful every day for the men and women who risk their lives to ensure Floridians have the essential service of electricity.”
Lineworkers in Florida undergo extensive training to perform their duties safely under hazardous conditions such as storms and high winds. They often travel beyond state lines to assist with power restoration efforts after disasters. Nationwide, lineworkers maintain more than 5.5 million miles of distribution lines supplying electricity to homes and businesses.
The Florida House of Representatives established Lineworker Appreciation Day in 2012 as a way to honor those who risk their lives daily to keep electric service operational throughout the state.
