The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will open a hearing on August 11 to review Florida Power & Light Company’s (FPL) request for a base rate increase. The hearing, set for 1:00 p.m. at the Betty Easley Conference Center in Tallahassee, gives FPL and other parties the opportunity to present sworn testimony and evidence regarding the proposed rate change.

FPL submitted its petition for a rate hike to the PSC on February 28. Earlier this year, the commission held nine service hearings—two virtually and seven in person—to gather input from customers about FPL’s service quality and its request for higher rates. FPL serves approximately six million retail customers across Northwest and peninsular Florida.

If more time is needed, additional hearing dates are reserved from August 12–15 and August 18–22. The schedule for each subsequent session will be announced at the end of each day.

The proceedings will be available via live broadcast on the PSC’s website by selecting “Watch Live and Archived PSC Events” on the homepage. Coverage may also air on the Florida Channel depending on local listings.
