FloridaMakes announced on March 26 that it has been awarded a $600,000 Pathways Grant to expand apprenticeship opportunities for manufacturers across Florida.

The grant aims to help manufacturers address workforce needs by providing structured training programs. These programs are designed to improve skill development for both new hires and current employees, which can help reduce turnover and build a more resilient workforce.

Marcelo DosSantos, Director of Workforce Development at FloridaMakes, said, “This investment strengthens our ability to meet manufacturers where their workforce needs are today and position them for future growth.”

According to DosSantos, “Our apprenticeship programs give Florida manufacturers a no-cost, turnkey solution to upskill both new hires and existing employees.” The apprenticeships combine on-the-job training with technical instruction recognized by the industry. This approach is intended to elevate frontline workers into higher-skill roles within manufacturing companies.

FloridaMakes plans to collaborate with community partners such as Samaritan Center and Elevance Health. These organizations will assist in recruiting job-ready candidates for open positions in manufacturing. The partnerships are expected to strengthen talent pipelines while supporting the employer-driven model focused on skills development and workforce stability.

The expansion of these apprenticeship opportunities reflects ongoing efforts by FloridaMakes and its partners to support economic growth through workforce development.
