Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay announced on Apr. 2 that it is celebrating its 40th anniversary, marking four decades as a waterfront hotel and community gathering place since opening in 1986. The hotel reports having welcomed over seven million guests and hosted more than six thousand social events during this period.

The milestone highlights the hotel’s longstanding presence in Tampa’s hospitality scene, with generations of families returning to the property for both leisure and celebrations. Jessica Cain, General Manager of Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, said, “For 40 years, Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay has been deeply rooted in this community, guided by our purpose of caring for people so they can be their best. From welcoming generations of travelers to celebrating milestones with our neighbors, this hotel has always been more than a place to stay. We’re especially proud that Oystercatchers, an original part of the hotel since opening day, remains a beloved local favorite. As we celebrate this anniversary, we’re energized by what’s ahead and excited to build on this legacy for years to come.”

The hotel credits much of its success to long-serving staff members such as Jane Booker from 1823 Kitchen & Bar and Steve Heald, who joined shortly after the launch. Heald said, “For nearly 40 years, I’ve watched this hotel become an integral part of Tampa Bay. Every partnership we’ve made stems from that early commitment to be present in this place, not just operate in it. It’s those deep roots in this community that define who we are.” Over the years Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay has partnered with organizations like Tampa Bay Watch and Habitat for Humanity.

Oystercatchers restaurant continues its sustainability efforts through participation in programs such as Shells for Shorelines by recycling oyster shells into living reefs since joining the initiative in 2023. The restaurant also recently brought back its Sunday brunch buffet tradition.

Looking ahead to December’s official anniversary date later this year, Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay plans further recognition activities for long-time guests along with property enhancements including updates to pool bar areas and renovated boardwalk spaces.
