The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) issued a statement on Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada, recognizing the service and sacrifices made by veterans. The union expressed gratitude to all who have served, highlighting their role in defending freedom and democracy.

“We owe a deep debt of gratitude to the women and men who have been on the front lines defending our freedom, protecting our democracy, and the ideals that unite us. Their bravery, sacrifice, and commitment to service represent the best of all of us,” said Brian Bryant, International President of IAM.

Bryant also noted that many veterans continue their commitment to public service after returning home by contributing to efforts that benefit working families. He emphasized how veterans’ leadership, discipline, and sense of unity strengthen the union’s mission for dignity, justice, and respect in the workplace.

This year marked a significant achievement for IAM. Through its Veterans Services Program, IAM became “the first and only union officially recognized as a National Veterans Service Organization (VSO) by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).” According to Bryant: “This historic designation highlights our union’s commitment to supporting those who have served in the armed forces. It ensures that IAM military veterans and their families now have direct access to essential benefits, trusted representation, and a strong advocate to help them navigate the system they have honorably earned.”

To all IAM veterans and every veteran: “Thank you! Your courage and service remind us what true solidarity looks like. We may never fully repay the sacrifice you have made, but we can – and must – honor it: by supporting one another, fighting for peace and equity, and ensuring every veteran and their family receive the care, opportunities, and respect they deserve.”

The message concluded with an expression of appreciation from Bryant on behalf of the entire IAM Executive Council.
