The IAM Union Local 2198 Young Workers Committee has collaborated with the Communities in Schools program at Elsik High School in Houston to provide more than 50 backpacks filled with school supplies to students facing need.
IAM Union Local 2198 members, officers, and IAM General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes supported the initiative, which aimed to supply essential items for students as they start the school year.
“I’m proud of the Young Workers Committee for stepping up and showing what it means to serve the community,” said General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes. “They are showing what it means to lead with heart. Even small efforts like this one are changing lives and building stronger futures for students.”
Young Workers Committee members Quintarius Oliver, Cora Walker, and Eva Brooks led the project. They were joined by IAM Local 2198 President Enrique Bojorquez and Vice President Tamisha Hodges. Faculty and staff from Elsik High School also contributed to the success of the donation effort.

Communities in Schools is a national nonprofit organization that works within schools to connect students with adults and resources needed for academic success.
Efforts such as this demonstrate how IAM Union members continue their involvement in supporting youth, strengthening public education, and investing in local communities.
