IAM Local 318’s Joseph Rumrey, a union leader representing Boston-based rail workers at Keolis, recently took part in a leadership training class at the IAM Winpisinger Center in Hollywood, Maryland. The program is designed to provide about 14 union representatives from various parts of the United States with practical skills for their roles.
The training focuses on developing expertise in claims writing and preparing for legal investigations. These skills are considered important for protecting union members’ interests during disputes and legal processes.
In addition to personal development, the rail division has set broader strategic goals. These include efforts to secure funding for commuter rail services and initiatives to expand high-speed rail infrastructure across the country.
