Members of IAM Union Local 696 (District 19) Rail Division outlined the rebuild and repair process for heavy machinery at the CSX Bryan Park roadway shop in Richmond, Va., according to an April 2 announcement.

The union members say their work involves tearing down, fabricating, and assembling complex electrical and hydraulic systems to transform equipment. This detailed process is aimed at ensuring that the machinery meets high standards before returning to service on rail lines.

A video released by the union shows operators discussing their dedication to quality craftsmanship. One operator described the finished equipment as functioning like a “Cadillac” once it is back in use.

The focus on thorough rebuilding highlights the skills required by IAM members working with heavy railroad machinery. Their approach emphasizes attention to detail throughout each stage of repair and assembly.

As these workers continue their efforts at CSX Bryan Park, they underline their commitment to maintaining safe and reliable rail operations through skilled labor.
