IAM Union members from across Missouri gathered in Jefferson City for the IAM Missouri State Council on April 7, focusing on protecting workers’ rights and addressing issues affecting working families.
The meeting aimed to counter efforts by large financial interests to change Missouri’s referendum process. According to the union, such changes could give corporations more influence in passing “right-to-work” laws that may weaken unions and lower wages.
Union members visited the state Capitol during the event, where they spoke with elected officials about key concerns. These included opposing paycheck deception bills, supporting workforce development initiatives, advocating for an increased minimum wage, and resisting attempts to reduce child labor protections.
Throughout the conference, attendees received updates from various departments within IAM—such as the International President’s Office and Communications Department—to ensure all members were informed and prepared for action. The gathering also promoted solidarity with other unions affiliated with Missouri AFL-CIO.
Several bipartisan legislators who support workers addressed delegates at the event. Speakers included Senate Democratic Leader Doug Beck; State Representatives Keri Ingle, Betsy Fogle, Stephen Webber, David Casteel, Jeff Amato; and State Senator Karla May. The conference organizers thanked DeWitt Darity (Missouri State Council President), Dwight Terry (Secretary-Treasurer), and other executive board members for their leadership.
