After 11 weeks of striking over labor disputes, members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local 1297 at Libbey Glass in Toledo have voted to approve a union-proposed agreement. The vote took place on Friday, November 7, with the goal of ending the work stoppage that began on August 23. The agreement is now pending approval from company management.

The proposed contract addresses several issues raised by union members. These include concerns about mandatory overtime policies that limit family time, efforts by the company to reduce key rights and protections for union members, and increasing health insurance costs.

“This was a proactive effort by the union to bring an end to the strike and get our members back to work,” said IAM District 54 President and Directing Business Representative T. Dean Wright, Jr. “Our members have stayed strong and united throughout this process, and this offer represents a fair path forward that addresses their core concerns. Now Libbey has a chance to treat their employees right and accept this offer and reinstate stability to its Toledo operations.”

About 84 IAM Union members are employed at Libbey Glass in Toledo, where they manufacture glass products sold internationally.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers represents around 600,000 active and retired workers in sectors such as aerospace, defense, railroads, healthcare, automotive, shipbuilding, airlines, transit, and more across North America.
