The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is calling on the U.S. Senate to pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act, a bill designed to restore collective bargaining rights for federal workers. The union’s push follows an executive order issued by former President Donald Trump on March 27, which ended collective bargaining for federal unions.
IAM International President Brian Bryant has sent letters to both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate urging support for the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550). The bill was introduced in the House by Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and has bipartisan backing.
According to IAM, “Federal workers are essential, and they’re committed to serving the American people. These workers deserve the right of collective bargaining, which provides protections in the workplace and better service to the public, just to name a few benefits.”
The IAM represents thousands of federal employees, including members of its affiliate, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM), which represents about 110,000 federal workers across the country.
