James Weldon Johnson Park in downtown Jacksonville is set to celebrate its 160th anniversary in 2026. The park will mark the milestone with a series of concerts, festivals, art events, and family activities throughout the year. Regular events such as ArtWalk, Galaxy Fest, and Poetry in the Park will continue as part of the festivities. The schedule also includes Food Truck Family Days with games and activities, new additions like “Happy Mondays” and “Scavenger Hunt Saturdays,” as well as returning weekly programs including Jazz in the Park featuring Joe Watts and Live @ Lunch on Fridays.

“James Weldon Johnson Park has always been more than a green space – it’s a gathering place that reflects the heart of our community. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re reminded of the partnerships and people who make it possible to create a welcoming, vibrant downtown for everyone. This anniversary isn’t just about looking back; it’s about building an even brighter future together,” organizers said.

Friends of James Weldon Johnson Park is a nonprofit established in 2014 to work with the City of Jacksonville on revitalizing the city’s oldest public park. Located near City Hall, the Jacksonville Public Library’s main branch, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, its mission is to transform the park into an urban space that serves diverse communities by improving landscaping and amenities while offering daily programming. The organization employs ambassadors and security staff to assist visitors and maintain safety at the park.
