The Pennsylvania State Council of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) recently held its 2025 conference, where union leaders addressed key issues affecting members.

President Rich Howell provided a detailed report on the conference’s proceedings. IAM Chief of Staff Vinny Addeo discussed the current political environment in Washington, D.C., and its effects on union members. He emphasized the importance of defending union rights and maintaining a strong voice for workers. Richie Johnsen, General Vice President for IAM Air Transport Territory, reported that mechanics in his division, particularly those at American Airlines, are now earning over $70 an hour—a record high for compensation.

David Sullivan, Eastern Territory General Vice President for IAM, spoke to delegates about the organization’s ongoing efforts to protect worker rights against challenges from lawmakers in Washington. The conference also included several other speakers who covered topics such as legal actions involving unions, workplace safety standards set by OSHA, strategies used in anti-union campaigns, and community initiatives.

Delegates at the event voted overwhelmingly to endorse Janelle Stelson as a pro-labor candidate for Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 10th district. The report concluded by highlighting the need to mobilize union members to support pro-labor candidates and Supreme Court judges in upcoming state elections.
