Taylor Rehmet, a leader within the International Association of Machinists (IAM) Union and a military veteran, was recently sworn in as a Texas State Senator. This marks the first time that a rank-and-file union member has taken office in the Texas Senate.

Rehmet has previously held several leadership roles within the union. He stated that his move to public office is a continuation of his commitment to representing workers. According to Rehmet, “I will focus on addressing issues like stagnant wages, retirement security and public education.”

The labor movement marked the occasion as an important milestone for union representation in state government.
