The U.S. Census Bureau has released preliminary data from the 2024 Annual Survey of School System Finances, offering an early overview of public school spending per pupil for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The initial findings also include state-level summaries on revenues and expenditures for the 2024 fiscal year.

The report notes that fiscal years can differ among school systems, and the survey data have not been adjusted to create a uniform fiscal year across all systems.

These figures are considered preliminary and may change before the final version is published. The Census Bureau expects to release finalized data covering all 50 states and the District of Columbia in 2026.
