Molly Springer, a senior graduating from the University of North Florida (UNF) with a degree in sport management, has combined academic achievement with practical experience during her time at the university. Originally from St. Johns, Florida, Springer selected UNF for its sport management program and proximity to her home.
“I could picture myself being really involved with the school, and that’s exactly what happened,” she said.
Springer held several leadership roles on campus. She was president of the Sport Management Club, where she organized events such as the Sport Industry Professionals Panel and Networking Event to connect students with industry leaders. In addition to serving as team manager for UNF’s men’s soccer team, she participated in the PRSSA Club and acted as an ambassador for the Silverfield College of Education and Human Services.
Her off-campus experiences included internships at two Super Bowls in 2024 and 2025, where she worked on enhancing fan engagement while learning about large-scale event operations. She also interned with the Jacksonville Icemen ECHL hockey team.
“It taught me so much about the importance of the workplace environment,” Molly shared. “The Icemen staff truly cared. They worked with us, laughed with us and supported us — and that set a standard for what I want in any workplace.”
Springer gained further experience through a communications and marketing internship at Sporting Club JAX, which led to a full-time job offer after graduation.
Molly’s efforts were recognized by UNF through awards including SCOEHS Outstanding Undergraduate Sport Management Student and the Sport Management Leadership Award.
She credits faculty mentors such as Professor Bobbi Doggett; Drs. Kristi Sweeney, Liz Gregg, Jennifer Kane; Dean Steve Dittmore; and academic advisor Marilyn Heth for their support throughout her studies.
“Every single one of them stood by me, supported my ideas and cheered me on, even when my plans changed. My failures became lessons because of their encouragement,” Molly said.
Springer plans to continue her education at UNF by pursuing a master’s degree in communication management focused on leadership while working as a graduate assistant for Dr. Sweeney.
“These internships and experiences gave me connections and skills that most people don’t get until they’re out of college. I’ve been able to show what I can do and set myself up for success.”
