The University of North Florida (UNF) has welcomed its largest incoming freshman class, with approximately 3,170 new students enrolling for the fall semester. This represents a 66% increase compared to last year’s numbers.
Among these new students, about 2,920 are first-time-in-college, full-time enrollees. The Class of 2029 includes 76 student-athletes and 35% of the group are first-generation college students.
Students in this cohort hail from Florida, as well as from 41 states and territories across the United States and eight other countries. The pre-health track is the most selected major among incoming freshmen, followed by biomedical science, business management, psychology and kinesiology.
Enrollment distribution among UNF’s colleges shows that 36% have chosen the College of Arts and Sciences, 22% are in the Brooks College of Health, 16% each in both Coggin College of Business and the College of Engineering and Construction, while 6% entered Silverfield College of Education and Human Services. Additionally, 14% have been accepted into Hicks Honors College.
The academic credentials for this year’s class include an average high school GPA of 3.96, SAT score of 1125 and ACT score of 22.
Retention rates for rising sophomores reached a record high at UNF: “Retention for rising sophomores reached 86.4%, exceeding last year’s record,” according to university officials. In addition, “85.8% maintaining a GPA of 2.0 or higher.”
This year marks another milestone for UNF as overall enrollment reaches around 17,600 students—the highest in its history. The university has also hired more than fifty new faculty members this academic year.
UNF now guarantees all incoming students will have access to experiential learning opportunities such as internships or research before graduation: “Also, starting this fall, UNF guarantees experiential learning for all incoming students, ensuring they have at least one hands-on experience such as an internship, research or leadership opportunity before they graduate,” stated university representatives.
The campus continues to undergo changes with new residence halls and renovated facilities designed to support innovation and student success.
