The Virginia IAM Council recently held a meeting that focused on labor issues and political involvement ahead of the upcoming statewide elections. Charles Mann, president of the council, addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of member security, fair compensation, and workplace safety. He urged union members to participate in the elections, noting that all major statewide offices and delegate seats are on the ballot.
Newly unionized members from botanical gardens shared their experiences with organizing efforts at their workplaces. They spoke about how resources and support from both International and state-level unions, including organizations like the AFL-CIO, played a role in their efforts.
The speakers emphasized the importance of political participation to promote labor interests and protect workers’ rights. They encouraged voting for candidates who support labor issues, stating that such engagement is essential for advancing the labor movement regardless of political party.
