The Winpisinger Center has announced the start of its Online Steward Training program, which will begin on October 1. The training is designed for new shop stewards who want to improve their effectiveness but are unable to attend in-person sessions at the Winpisinger Center.

“This initiative is another step forward in expanding our members’ access to quality union education, no matter where they live or work,” said Winpisinger Center Director Mary McHugh.

The program is available to all members in good standing who serve as stewards. It will run over three consecutive weeks, with each session lasting two hours and covering two topics. To accommodate different schedules, each session will be offered three times per week.

The first week will focus on the role of the steward and steward rights and responsibilities, with sessions scheduled for Wednesday, October 1 at 10:00 a.m. EDT; Thursday, October 2 at 8:00 p.m. EDT; and Saturday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

The second week covers grievances and investigations, taking place on Wednesday, October 8 at 10:00 a.m. EDT; Thursday, October 9 at 8:00 p.m. EDT; and Saturday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

In the third week, participants will learn about just cause and discipline cases as well as contract cases and past practice during sessions set for Wednesday, October 15 at 10:00 a.m. EDT; Thursday, October 16 at 8:00 p.m. EDT; and Saturday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

Members interested in joining can self-register for the Online Steward Training through the provided registration link or contact the Winpisinger Center with questions using an online form.
