The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has announced its participation in the upcoming Young Workers March on Washington, scheduled for Saturday, February 7, in Washington, D.C. The union is encouraging members and supporters to join other labor unions and worker advocacy groups from across the United States at this event.
According to IAM, the march aims to highlight several issues currently affecting young workers. These include challenges related to affordability, housing, healthcare, childcare, and student debt. The organization states that these problems are impacting both job opportunities for younger generations and the overall stability of communities.
A statement from IAM notes: “On this day, the IAM will join labor unions and worker advocacy organizations from across the country to demand an America that works for workers and to ensure young workers have the same opportunities their parents had.”
IAM emphasizes that addressing these crises requires collective action: “These challenges threaten the future of work and the stability of our communities. That’s why young workers and unions are coming together to demand action, fairness, and real solutions.”
The event is set to begin with a march at 11 a.m., starting at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill located at 400 New Jersey Ave., NW. A rally will follow at noon at the U.S. Capitol Building.
IAM encourages participation with a call: “Join the IAM on Saturday, Feb. 7 and make your voice heard for good jobs, economic security, and a future where working families can thrive.”
